The jury for the third edition of the PICTO LAB \/ EXPERIMENTER L’IMAGE residency met and chose Thomas Paquet’s project, for its systematized and artisanal approach to luminous variations, which he develops with meticulous devices, always pushing further the encounter between light, space and time.<\/h2>\n

\n\u201cThrough a series of light devices, I aim to create a series of works inspired by ancient scaphes and gnomons, the first measuring instruments made by mankind. This work of capturing light by creating sundials refers to humanity’s primitive need to measure time. It also demonstrates a poetic and meditative approach to the passing of time, a vital movement, an encounter with light. Finally, for me, it is a question of continuing to question photography as its own subject by creating a mise en abyme between the insolation device, the camera, and the result, the sculpture, itself an insolation device. \u00bb<\/p>\n

Franco-Canadian artist born in 1979, Thomas Paquet questions the nature of time, the structure of its uninterrupted flow, and the dynamics of its movement. For several years, in a construction game to paint a sensitive experience of the world, Thomas Paquet has undertaken photographic study work around its fundamental characteristics: light, space, and time.
\nRepresented by Galerie Bigaignon, Thomas Paquet’s work has been the subject of several personal exhibitions and has also been presented at exhibitions and fairs such as Paris Photo or a ppr oc he. He is also a finalist for the Swiss Life \u00e0 4 Mains and BMW Art Makers prizes in 2022. Thomas Paquet lives and works in Paris.<\/p>\n
