Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Agathe Boudin

From a childhood immersed in books, Agathe Boudin has retained the desire to tell stories, always oscillating between reality and the imaginary. A self-taught photographer, her work combines her interest in the psychology of characters (and then, as she grows older, of human beings), their relationship with the world and nature, and a certain fascination for the unspeakable. The result is images tinged with poetry and a preserved gentleness of childhood, a collection of fleeting moments meticulously captured, always on the edge, between light and shadow, dream and nightmare, the ambivalence of a simple complexity, playing with sharpness and blur.

« The symphony of falls »

Cotton, denim, linen, silk, leather… 600,000 tonnes of discarded textiles every year. A living composition, a combination of pieces of clothing destined to be burnt or buried, the symphony of scraps tends to speak of fashion that transforms, saves, revalues and reconciles us. Fashion that is still timid, that slips through the cracks of a colossal industry. Fashion that still barely dares to carry its tiny weight. Delicate fashion that takes its time. Jessica Solomon, designer of the pieces photographed in this series, has chosen to save some of these textiles by creating her brand Seconde main. From the thousands of bales sent to the island of Madagascar, she extracts, sorts and breaks down each garment into unique pieces, veritable marvels of craftsmanship. A return to responsible, creative and sensitive practices. Fashion as a means of reinventing, starting with what already exists, which is already far too large. What if, rather than always wanting to consume more and forget what is, we took the trouble to look again, differently, to make what already exists just as desirable and alive?
