Finalist – Prix Picto de la Mode 2024 : Florent Le Roux

Born in the Paris suburbs, Florent Le Roux is a fashion and portrait photographer and director. At the age of 7, he began making his own little films with his camcorder and HI8 cassettes, accompanied by his best childhood friends. These suspended moments became his escape, moments of freedom and expression that enabled him to cope with difficult events (the death of his brother, an accident, his mother’s mental illness, bullying at school). In the face of these traumatic events, he promised himself that he would persevere in this practice, which made him happy. Around the age of 26, his very first fashion film, Wildest Dreams, led him to collaborate with magazines and fashion designers. He would like to thank the art directors, the models, designers, make-up artists, stylists, composers and hairdressers who have placed their trust in him. Florent Le Roux likes to combine video with photography. And set design with music. It’s his way of expressing himself and his way of life.

« Something about us »

“After breaking off a 5-year relationship, the last 2 years of which were particularly trying and traumatic, notably due to domestic violence (physical, psychological and sexual), I met a DJ and composer, Zosia Kruk. She asked me if I’d be interested in making a video clip, as she’d appreciated my work and my artistic vision. However, the music was about love and its secrets. So I was quite reticent at first, because it brought back a lot of bad memories. But in the end, I cleared my head and listened carefully to the lyrics of his song ‘Something About Us‘. So I imagined the story line. And the images I wanted to tell, show and bring out. And I also told myself that it was the only way for me to ‘bury’ the past and use it as a remedy to move forward. Whether in photos or video, I wanted to capture and freeze the strongest and most distinct moments in a love relationship, such as feelings, complicity, affection, secrets, arguments, reconciliations, protection and sharing. As well as the main element, indelible and passionate love. The people in the photos and video are, or were, real-life couples. So I wanted to immortalise those moments. After all, we are all ephemeral. And photography and video have the power to make us all immortal.”
