Steve Ney is a Parisian photographer, originally from Pondicherry, India. Influenced by his mother, he discovered photography at a young age. After training in fashion, the COVID-19 crisis pushed him to fully dedicate himself to photography. His work blends his cultural roots with his artistic vision to offer an authentic perspective on modern India.
His latest series, « Our India », is inspired by his childhood memories and explores India’s cultural heritage, the role of women, and hair culture. By combining landscapes and cinematic narratives from Kollywood, this series seeks to capture a nuanced and intergenerational view of India, where tradition and modernity intersect.
Biography
Steve Ney, 27, was born in Paris and is originally from Pondicherry, India. Guided by his mother, who moved between analog and digital photography, he was introduced early on to what he called “the device that freezes life.” From a very young age, he developed a strong desire to tell stories through the lens of images.
His academic path was marked by challenges, and he eventually decided to pursue training in the field of fashion. The COVID-19 crisis later became a turning point, pushing him to embark on the creative journey he shares today. Currently, he continues to explore the world of photography, blending his creativity with his life experience to create unique and captivating works.
His diverse cultural roots, combined with his artistic vision, enrich his photographs with rare depth and authenticity. Photography has become a bridge that reconnects him to his Indian heritage, driving him to go beyond stereotypical and clichéd portrayals. He is deeply committed to revealing and presenting an authentic, nuanced vision of modern India. Each image he captures is infused with his passion for his country of origin and his desire to share its beauty with the world.

At the crossroads of tradition and modernity, this fashion documentary is inspired by his childhood memories in India. Driven by the richness of the landscapes that nourished his imagination, his exploration focuses on cultural heritage, the diversity of landscapes, while incorporating the cinematic narratives of Kollywood. It also addresses the role of women in society and highlights the uniqueness of hair culture in India. The goal is to evoke a multicultural and intergenerational memory, seen through his eyes.
