7th Edition of The Les Femmes s’exposent festival

For the seventh consecutive year, the small seaside resort of Houlgate is celebrating female photography with the Les Femmes s’exposent festival. From June 7, the public will be able to discover the 12 new exhibitions highlighting international contemporary women photographers, all categories combined! Among them, “Chemin creux” is the result of Camille Brasselet’s residency in Houlgate, winner of the 2022 Prix Picto de la Mode. Picto Foundation renews its support for this brand-new edition !

The LES FEMMES S’EXPOSENT Festival proudly begins its seventh edition. The last twelve months have been marked by significant challenges and developments in the world of photography: the most notable progress is the adoption of the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) within the European Union. This pioneering law, by regulating the use of this technology, is the first binding law in the world on AI. It opens the way to greater transparency in the handling of algorithms and aims to protect rights while respecting European rules. In particular, the copyright from which the photographer, as creator of an original work – the photo –, benefits.

The Festival’s programming remains faithful to its original vocation: intergenerational, national and international, it offers a perspective on contemporary photography and its different practices. The women photographers presented have varied origins and backgrounds, their subjects are multiple – gender equality, the birth in the 1980s of an Olympic Games discipline, breakdancing, climate change, the consequences of colonization, the challenges encountered by migrants or indigenous peoples in preserving their traditions… By watching these reports, the public must be aware of the risks sometimes faced by those who want to bear witness to the state of the world and continue their essential role in information.

The festival also continues its development by offering a new initiative to support the creation of photographic projects while maintaining its commitment to eco-responsible practices throughout the year. Deeply anchored in contemporary concerns, the festival wishes to be a mirror of its times, and to offer a stimulating reflection on current societal issues.
