Niépce Prize 2018 : Stéphane Lavoué

Picto Foundation welcomed the nomination of Stéphane Lavoué, Niépce Prize Gens d’Images 2018.
Since 2016, Picto Foundation has been a patron of the Niépce Prize – Gens d’images. The Picto laboratories endowment fund rewards the winner, designs and produces an artist object with them. This year, Stéphane Lavoué, Niepce Prize 2018 imagined the object “PAMPA” in collaboration with Laurel Parker Book and with the support of Awagami and Taos Photographic.

Stéphane Lavoué was born in 1976 in Mulhouse and works in Paris. Artists, politicians, actors and intellectuals have posed before Stéphane Lavoué’s lens. After graduating from the École supérieure du bois in Nantes in 1998, he spent two years in the Brazilian Amazon, responsible for wood purchases for a French industrial group. Back in France in 2001, he moved to Paris and gave up wood for photography. He joined the Myop agency in 2006, and then in 2010 the Pasco group of portraitists. His photographic storytelling project, “The North East Kingdom” began in 2013 and heralded other personal series.

Stéphane Lavoué’s application was sponsored by Marie-Pierre Subtil, editor-in-chief of the magazine 6Mois.

The jury, chaired by Héloïse Conésa, curator for contemporary photography at the Department of Prints and Photography, accommodated at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, deliberated their choice on Tuesday 15th May 2018. It comprised leading figures from various professions involved in the production, critiquing and publishing of photographs.
